It is a small park not big enough such to ensure the survival of Jucumari Bear, symbol of the park. But despite these limitations, the park has an enormous diversity of fauna and flora, thanks to the amount of climates and microclimates that knows the park, caused by the difference of about 5000 meters between high and low point. Most of all, the park protects the cloud forest, which is one of the least studied ecosystems but richer in spices than any other ecosystem.

Full-day excursions, this is the only tour in the world that covers the “Synthesis of Geographic World” in just half a day. After climbing to the line of glaciers, the new winds of the road to the subtropical Yungas, covering landscapes with lush vegetation. According to the need to minimize the direct and indirect impact that caused the construction of the road CotapataSanta Barbara, was established in 1993 Cotapata National Park in the province of La Paz. This park is between 1,200 and 5,600 meters. Located in the Eastern Cordillera, with an abrupt topography comprises four ecological zones with enormous wealth, home to many endemic and endangered species and subspecies of flora and fauna, such as the torrent duck (Merganetta armata) there.

The Cotapata road – Santa Barbara, once fully completed, will constitute an articulator way between the departments of La Paz and Beni, as well as other regions of the country, since this road section is part of the Basic Road Network No. 3 country road and Victor Paz Estenssoro.

The Yungas region, as a whole, will be favored with the presence of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists, who during their stay will encourage the economy of the Yungas populations, especially those found in the northern sector of this beautiful tropical zone .

A good experiment to vividly recall an ancient history of peoples related to the Tiwanaku and Inca civilizations is walking prehispanic roads, which were built by earlier cultures including the Incas. Everyone has different levels of difficulty. They contain a variety of ecological zones rich in flora and fauna, rivers, lakes and lagoons.

An example of this is the road of El Choro (3 days), which covers part of Cotapata National Park; Takesi the way (2 days), that of Reconquered (3 days), the way Yunga Cruz (3 days) and the prehispanic path Irupana (3 days), located in the provinces of North and South Yungas of La Paz department.

One of these roads to travel is being done towards Coroico summit, which allows us to walk about 70 km from the next plateau to the subtropical valleys of the Yungas, taking a natural step (Apacheta) or fracture at this point of the ridge (4,700 m), located in the natural line formed by the glaciers of the Cordillera Real in the stretch of the Wila Mankilizani snowy road and the passage of the summit.
