Rainbow Mountain – 2 Days – 1 Night

VINICUNCA,  also known as the RAINBOW MOUNTAIN or MOUNTAIN OF SEVEN COLOURS, is located to the south of Cusco, in the Canchis Province. It offers its visitors a marvellous  panorama  of majestic mountains and glaciers such Ausangate, crystalline rivers, ñpaceful pastoral scenes, herds of sheep, camelid breeders, and Andean people dressed  in their native colorful clothes. This new route , apart  from the established  routes, is a real adventure through a wild and untouched landscape where the only encounter you will have is with VINICUNCA “THE MOUNTAIN OF SEVEN COLOURS” , PUCAPUNTA “the red mountain ” and small Quechua-speaking communities, descendents of the Quechuas, who exploit the Altiplano.
This is a high mountain route and reaches altitudes of up 5200 meters above sea level.

Day 1:  Cusco – Pitumarka – Hanchi Pacha (4180m) – K’airahuiri Alto (4700m)

At around 07:00am will be picked  up at your hotel to begin the excursión. We head south, passing the town of Urcos on the road to Puno, after about 2 hours on a unpaved road, we will arrive in Checacupe district with its imposing Inka bridge and a colonial bridge that dates from the XII century, at this point we will ascending the Pitumarca Valley. In Pitumarca we can buy some basic refreshments,then continue to Hanchi Pata village, travelling for about one hour more, through beautiful landscapes.

After approximately 4 hours we arrive at our destination, the slopes  of the snow-capped mountain Ausangate (Hanchipata). After enjoying our lunch and a short briefing, we will continue another 30 minutes, will pass locals from this área and herds of camelids, and at the control point in K´airahuiri Alto (4700m), we will have our campsite.

Day 2 – K’ariahuiri Alto 4700m –– Vinicunca 5000m – Hanchipacha – Cusco

After an early breakfast, at around 6am we begin the ascent of the  mountain 0f 7 colours (5200masl, know as Vinicunca Mountain or the Rainbow Mountain), Along the way we will have the opportunity to see the snow-capped, the imposing Ausangate, and explore the extensives grasslands that the coloured mountain offers for about 2 hours. Towards Vinicunca Pass, we gain altitude at the top of the pass. Finally you will see the amazing Vinicunca. Once we are at the top we we have plenty of time to take photos and explore  the área Then return to our camp  will take approximately 1 hour where our lunch will be waiting for us. After lunch we will walk  for about 1.30 hours to get to Hanchipata where our vehicle  will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco, arriving at around 18:00hrs. Transfer to your respective hotels.
