In the afternoon we have a city tour which includes a visit to the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), the main Cathedral of Cusco, and the four archaeological sites Sacsayhuaman, Q´enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.
After breakfast, 8:20 a.m. pick up from your hotel. We leave the city of Cusco and drive out past Saqsaywaman and Tambomachay, over the mountains towards the Sacred Valley. We descend 1500 feet to the valley floor of the sacred Urubamba river, arriving at the village of Pisac where we will visit a traditional market. This is a great place to buy some local souveniers. We then drive up to explore the extensive ruins of Pisac with stunning views over the valley.
We continue on to Urubamba where we stop for our lunch. A further 30 mins drive takes us to Ollantaytambo, surrounded by the sacred mountains, where we will again discover the magnificence of the Incan constructions, including the amazing temple of the Sun, enormous blocks of rock perfectly carved and polished, stone water fountains, stairs and terraces. In this ancient village you can appreciate the beauty of the local people in their traditional dress, all surrounded by the sacred mountains and the valleys of Patacancha and Willoq. After visiting Ollantaytambo, we take the “Expedition” train to Aguas Calientes to spend the night.
After breakfast, we pick you up in your hotel and take the bus to the entrance of the citadel. After a century of archeological discoveries, and thanks to recent studies of XVI century archive documents, there are good grounds to suppose that the citadel of Machu Picchu, just like the pyramids of the pharaohs of Egypt or the tomb of emperor Chin Shi Huang in China, was a luxurious and well cared for mausoleum for Inca Pachacuteq, the founder and first emperor of Tahuantinsuyo.
At agreed time you will take the bus down to Aguas Calintes for lunch, then you muts be at the station 30 minutes before the train departs. Reception and the traisn station in Cusco and transfer to your hotel.
