Wonder at the towering snow-covered peaks and cerulean lagoons as you meander through the Sacred Valley towards Huchuy Qosqo; ancient pre-Incan settlement perched improbably within the folds of the Peruvian Andes. This day trek is ideal for those who want to venture off the beaten path, witness untouched Andean villages and explore picturesque ruins.
Accessible most of the year, the trek to Huchuy Qosqo is better undertaken between April and December.

Day 01: Cusco – Chincheros – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay – Cusco

Early morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive out of the city to Chinchero. In Chinchero we will visit the church, a typical market, and an archeological site, before continuing our journey to Tauqaq, a village located on the edge of Piuray Lagoon, where the group will begin the trek.

After a short briefing about the route, we will walk for 3 hours to Tauqaq Pass (4,000 meters), where we will see the snowy peaks of Ausangate, Veronica, Pitusiray and Sahuasiray in the mountain range to the south. We´ll then descend to Huchuy Qosqo, an imposing architectural complex that includes a large open ceremonial center.

From here we can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley, the Vilcanota River, and the snowcapped mountain range of the same name.
After a guided tour, we will continue on our way to Lamay at 3000 meters elevation. From here we will take a private bus to Cusco, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
