Rural and sustainable tourism Janac Chuquibamba Community 1Day – Community (Janac Chuquibamba) is located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas surrounded by beautiful Rocky Mountains, the community consists of 60 families and about 380 people, with his community Huama.
Its main activity is agriculture, animal husbandry and horticulture, the community is characterized by its organizational model, good management, while maintaining the organizational structure, with the ultimate authority to varayoc (mayor), who is elected for a period of two years.
The varayoc even uses pututo (seashell musical instrument) for the call to the most important meetings.
The community taking into account their natural resources, combined with myths and legends, developed several activities for show visitors, performing a short walk to the slopes of an Andean mountain, making interpretation and references to the benefits of Achupalla that it is a gift from God Viracocha.
The Achupalla is a plant used in traditional medicine, development tools, cooking utensils, fuel, feed for animals and much more.

Pick up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer to the community. After around an hour and a half’s journey we arrive at the community where we are greeted with flowers and Andean music.

We begin a walk of about 30 minutes to the lower slopes of a mountain where there is an abundance of Achupalla, a spiny plant with many uses; from cooking utensils, baskets, animal fodder, fuel, medicinal uses, and even the larvae that grow in the flowering season can be eaten. We collect the plants and return to the community where we will learn how the spines are removed and begin the processes to produce of all of the items mentioned. We then enjoy a delicious lunch, after which we return to your hotel in Cusco.
